Well done Dan. That sounds remarkably similar to my story.
I've been doing a bit of running too this year. I'll never be in the Olympics, but my weekends in the hills seem so easy now, and I can eat what I want.
I track my walking regime <a href="http://peterdean.co.uk/walks/stats.php" title="My walks" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

Huh, me again, I like your blog and just discovered your diet regime so I thought I'd share my experience. So last year whilst at doc for annual MOT Bonnie, very pretty nurse casually says to me I should watch my weight as I'm getting close to being categorised as obese. I've always been a bit on the chunky side, @ about 15st but it crept up to 16 when I gave up the evil weed. I like a challenge so Bonnie's words were just the kick up the backside I needed. Pretty much like you, I figured burn more calories and eat fewer of them should do the trick. I planned my own diet and decided on white fish & shellfish... lots of it together with veg, but no bread, potatoes etc. In essence very high protein low fat & carbs. I combined my new eating regime with walking 5 miles (min) per day. It worked a treat and within 5 months I'd lost 4st. I'm very pleased to say I have kept the weight off and I'm still 12st, my BMI and waist to height ratio are now bang on normal for my height age etc. It certainly makes getting up Pen-y-ghent a whole lot easier! Down side it I had to purchase a complete new wardrobe as everything was way too big. Both the doc and Bonnie the nurse are well chuffed with my efforts.
